CANYON/ AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Writing, reporting, and editing all important parts of journalism takes years to learn.
Both Canyon and Randall High Schools have journalism students who take it to the next level.
"We went online last year and that's when we reduced the number of printed copies in order to have more time to devote to online," said Laura Smith, Canyon High School Journalism Teacher.
A paradigm shift is affecting print media all across the nation, so do students believe these classes are really preparing them for the next level?
"I do think it has prepared me very well and we've had people come in from colleges come talk to us and they have told us what an advantage it'll give us," said Jaden Beatty, Canyon High School Journalism Student.
But why journalism?
Many other students would rather spend their time working on a homecoming float or preparing for a Friday night football game.
"I found out that I like giving a voice to other people and I really like that I could express my own opinion through writing and that other people would read it and could be affected by it," said Madison Cunningham, Randall High School Journalism Student.
Both Canyon and Randall still publish four issues of their respected papers a year.
But the internet is where print media seems to be headed.
