CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO (AP) -- CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Jurors have convicted a 35-year-old man of first-degree murder in a 2006 shooting in the eastern New Mexico community of Clovis.
Robert "Pelon" Macias was convicted in the shooting death of Wilfred Salas Jr.
The jury returned the verdict late Friday after a five-day trial. It was the second time Macias was convicted in the case.
He originally was convicted in 2007. However, the New Mexico Supreme Court overturned the verdict in 2009, ruling the judge in that trial erred in allowing a jail house phone call to be played for jurors.
State District Judge Stephen Quinn has not set a sentencing date. District Attorney Matt Chandler says he will seek the maximum sentence of life in prison.
