DENVER (AP) - A Colorado state senator involved in a fatal crash in Texas is vowing to continue working on transportation issues even though she was removed from consideration to head the Senate's transportation committee.

Sen. Suzanne Williams served as vice chairwoman of the committee last year and was expected to head it this year.

Williams declined to talk about the crash Wednesday, as Colorado lawmakers opened a new legislative session. However, she said she will remain on the transportation committee and continue to work on transportation issues.

Authorities say Williams' SUV drifted into oncoming traffic near Channing, Texas on Dec. 26.

The crash killed a pregnant woman in another car, Brianna Gomez of Amarillo. Her son survived after being delivered by emergency cesarean section.
