AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Texas Department of Transportation is scheduled to start a major construction project Monday, January 17.
TxDOT crews will start replacing the bridge on FM 1541, or Washington, near the Don Harrington Boy Scout Camp. TxDOT officials say the bridge is being replaced due to natural deterioration and structural deficiencies, both of which the department says make it obsolete for current traffic loads.
In preparation, for the project traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction over the existing bridge while the approaching roadway is widened. One side of the bridge is expected to be closed in February, with traffic down to only one lane and controlled with traffic signals.
TxDOT is asking motorist to be extra careful and pay close attention to traffic conditions in the work zone. The bridge should be completed by December, the estimated cost of the project is $2 million.
