AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Many of us make New Year's resolutions to eating healthier and losing weight, and while we all know it's easier said than done, one business in Amarillo is trying to help out.

United Supermarkets re -launched their NuVal Nutritional Scoring System, which places a nutritional ranking right beside the price of the product.

The NuVal System ranks food and beverage items from one to a hundred, and the higher the number is -- the more nutritional value that product contains.

"For today's times I think a lot of people are more in tune to nutrition. What they're feeding their family, their children, and they actually want to be in the know on how healthy the foods are that they're buying. That's why we have the NuVal System to help you make better choices when you shop," said Manuel Allen, Market Street United Grocery Manager.

One shopper said she felt lost before the scoring system came along.

"I think a lot of people have weight issues because it's just so dad-gum sneaky -- it's really hard if you don't have some kind of a system to know what you're eating," said Sally Thomas, United Supermarket Shopper.

Health expert, Blue Baggett, says healthy eating is good start, but exercising is also another important.

"We always just say make changes -- don't do the same thing all the time. Add a little variety into your life. If you like walking, then add some cycling to it or other classes. Just give yourself something different that's going to keep your body changing all the time, so that you don't get bored," said Baggett, Amarillo Athlete Owner/Trainer.

Like our shopper Thomas said, every little bit helps when it comes to eating healthy.

"I just think this is going to make it a lot easier. It's so time consuming to have to read and try to figure out this for that, and I think this will make it just easier and quicker."

Manager Allen says just because an item may have a low ranking number doesn't necessarily make it bad for you, but it may not be as nutritional as something comparable.
