AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a US federal holiday in observance of the reverends birthday.
It falls on the third Monday of January every year, and to celebrate the holiday, Saint John Baptist Church of Amarillo hosted a concert Saturday evening.
One attendee says positive changes towards equality have flourished.
"I believe especially with an African American President we have definitely made steps towards equality for different races as well as genders. I also think that even in the community we have to take bigger steps to become closer together to become a tight knit group," said Mariah Willis, MLK Jr. concert attendee.
National recording artist Jevon Jackson and Spiritual Attitude were some of the highlights at the concert.
Jackson is a musician, songwriter and director who has been active in the music industry since 1989.
