WALCOTT, TEXAS The schools in Walcott will soon get a chunk of their electricity from wind energy thanks to a grant from the State of Texas. Superintendent Bill Sam McLaughlin tells Pronews 7 the district has been approved for a grant totaling $177,532 to construct a wind turbine. The grant money will pay for most of the project, which is expected to cost just over $200,000. Walcott ISD will foot the rest of the bill.
McLaughlin says they've applied for the grant for the past 3 years, and were just notified that they were selected to receive it this time.
The turbine is expected to generate enough electricity to power the school, as long as the wind is blowing.
McLaughlin says,"It's great news especially in the financial crunch, that we and every other school district is in right now. It will be a great reduction in our energy bill."
