Former Hardeman County deputy jailed

HARDEMAN CO., TEXAS -- A former deputy for the Hardeman County Sheriff's office was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Warrants were issued on January 10th for the arrest of Michael John Nelson, 24, following a three month investigation by the Texas Rangers. Nelson was deputy for the Hardeman County Sheriff's office for about eight months.

Nelson's bond was set at $100,000 for each count of sexual assault of a child, a $5,000 bond was also placed on him for possession of a controlled substance. Nelson has posted bond and has been released from custody.
