AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Traffic Commission sub-committee had their first ever meeting Wednesday at City Hall.
Ellen Green was elected chair and Dean Downey was elected vice-chair.
Then they got down to the issues that made the sub-committee necessary for being formed.
They have decided to put up 150 signs with the words "Share the Road" written on them along with a picture of either a bike or motorcycle. The signs will be placed where the most accidents happen.
Then came the issue of banning cell phones in school zones, but before that can happen signs must be placed in the school zones alerting drivers that the area is a no cell phone area.
"What we'd like to see happen is that we start putting up, posting signs that restricts cell phone use in school zones beginning with high schools, we hope to start putting up signs this spring and continue until all the signs are put up in the city limits of Amarillo," said Green.
As far as how these signs are going to cost Green said that it's in the budget.
