CANYON, TEXAS -- Hundreds of students from area schools got to experience archeology first hand. It's part of the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum Archeology Day. Close to 600 students enjoyed activities like bead work and making pottery.
"I developed this program about 3 to 4 years ago, and every year it has grown. This year we have about 600 school students from various schools around the Panhandle," said Millie Vanover, Education Coordinator at the Museum.
4th through 7th graders spent the day hearing and seeing how people in the Texas Panhandle lived years ago.
"We have Archeology 101, and they get to learn all about archeology and how people have lived in for the 14,000 years in the Texas Panhandle and learn about some of the things that they've done," said Vanover.
The museum says Archeology Day has been such a success, next year it will be extended for 2 days.
