AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo's economy is getting a big boost this weekend as people travel here for the Spanish Jehovah Witnesses Circuit Assembly at the Civic Center. Around 1300 people from as far away as Kansas are in Amarillo Saturday and Sunday for the assembly. While it's a great time for worship and fellowship, it also means great news for Amarillo's economy. Those traveling are staying in our hotels, eating at our restaurants and shopping at our stores, dumping money into our economy.
"When we have visitors from out of town staying in a local hotels they generate very valuable tax revenue part of which stays in the city, part of which goes down to Austin. And it's tax revenue that helps keep the regular taxes for citizens lower,"said Eric Miller, Dir. of Communications at Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council.
The Jehovah Witnesses have an open invitation to their event. Again, the last day for the assembly is Sunday and it starts at 9:20 am.
