AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Parents got together at Bonham Middle School Tuesday night to talk about their kids -- especially about what they see on TV and the consequences of sexting.
After a brief prayer, the evening began with a presentation to parents about what their kids are learning about the consequences and what the parents themselves might not know.
Parents heard more about the music lyrics and TV shows that may be influencing their childs sexually, and how to show them what not to do and how to prepare them for real life situations.
"I think it's just good for parents to be armed with this information so they can make the proper choices when they're raising their family," said Julie Jones, Bonham Middle School PTA President.
"We have just seen an increase with problems with kids using cell phones and texting inappropriate messages and they have no idea that they have legal consequences for that, and so we're just here to inform them and educate them in hopes that that will reduce the number of referrals we get on those kids," said Melissa Blackburn, Community Outreach Specialist.
Some of the material from Tuesday night featured advertising, and how Madison Avenue uses sexually explicit material to sell products to children and teenagers.
