AMARILLO, TEXAS -- UPDATE:
It's been a part of Ascension Academy's 41 acres since the school obtained the property.
And for the last decade it's existance has been a debate.
A group of WT Engineering students are doing a semester long study to see if it can be used to pump water.
The group of students will spend the semester working on a proposal and recommendation for the windmill's future.
And it will also be used as a learning tool.
"Doing a big project like this and planning it all out really gives you a good scope of what you're going to do as a mechanical engineer, it may not be in this field but it'll be projects like this," said Colin Bjostad, WT Engineering Student.
"It's a great project for the engineering students, they get to synthesize all of their things that they've learned in their curriculum and it's a good oppurtunity to really apply it to something that's useful," said Freddie Davis, WT Engineering and Computer Science.
Based on first judgement, students don't believe it's going to have enough power to pump for the entire 41 acres.
But that it will suplement their supply from the city and save them money.
They have 12 weeks to put together a solution presentation that will be presented to the board in April.
