AMARILLO, TX -- The Dow Jones industrial average crossed the 12,000 mark this afternoon--the first time in more than two years .
It reached 12,020 early in Wednesday's session... up 37 points, before slipping back under that benchmark.
Economists and investors say it's a good thing but not necessarily the end to the recession, noting we're still down about 20 percent from the Dow's high 3 years ago.
"We're still low relatively speaking, so it's not a case where you want to say, "Oh, let's not get in now because everything's done so, so well...But you also don't want to say Hey, let's go all in now because everything's going so well," says Josh Woods, of Woods Financial.
The last time the Dow was at 12,000 was in June 2008, after hitting 14,000 earlier that year.
