AMARILLO, TEXAS -- UPDATED:

Amarillo police arrested 33 people over the weekend after breaking up a party at an empty apartment complex.

Police responded to a call at the Puckett Place apartments on Bell with reports of trespassing.

They found an estimated 100 juveniles and young adults with walkie talkies to spread the word if police showed up.

A chair was thrown at police and people started breaking glass to escape.

"Several dozens more than we did not get our hands on, and we heard them breaking glass out of doors to escape or trying to get away, we've got damage to property in the building that had no right to be there," said Jerry Neufeld, Amarillo Police Deparment.

Two juveniles were among those arrested.

Besides minor citations for possession or contributing alcohol to minors, all those arrested face criminal trespassing charges along with damages.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:

Saturday night Amarillo police busted up a party that ended with the arrest of 33 people. Officers were called to the Puckett Place Apartments at 3447 Amherst on a suspicion call. Police were told that someone had broken into a vacant building, that was possibly under renovation, and that there were reportedly 100 people inside.

When officers arrived they saw two women running towards a building. The officers approached the building and went up the stairs to the second floor where they overheard someone talking on a walkie-talkie alerting people inside that the police were on the way. Police entered the main portion of the building where they saw what turned out to be a large teenage alcohol party.

As one officer was detaining a couple of people for minor in possession, the majority of the crowd finally realized that police were there. Someone started yelling "the police are here" and all the party-goers started running and looking for ways out of the building. Some people began breaking out windows and doors in an attempt to escape, while others jumped out of the windows, and some were possibly pushed out by fellow suspects.

Additional officers were called to the scene, and started to round up the party-goers. As one officer was attempting to stop them from breaking out the windows, an unidentified person picked up a chair and threw it at the officer hitting him on the left side.

Once officers were able to gain control of the situation, they saw several people had cut themselves while trying to get away. One person was injured bad enough to require an ambulance.

The property manager was called and confirmed that none of those attending the party were tenants and did not have permission to be in the building.

In all, 33 adults were arrested and booked into Randall County for criminal trespass, while some were also charged with additional charges like minor in possession, public intoxication, and minor in possession of tobacco.

A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were taken into custody and later released to guardians.
