AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Competition between area schools is brewing, but not for the usual reasons of sports but rather to help save lives.
The third annual Kids Inc. Donor Days has begun and will run until Valentines Day.
Suzanne Talley, Coffee Memorial Blood Center Marketing Director , tells us how even kids can help with the blood drive and what they could possibly win.
"You have to be 17 years old to donate and weigh at least 115 pounds, but even if you're an elementary school kid this is something that you can encourage your parents and your grandparents to do. They can come out and they can honor your school with their donation and that vote counts towards helping your school win the money. The elementary school that has the most donors voting for their school will win a one thousand dollar cash value prize, the middle school with the most will receive $1500 and the high school $2000. That money goes a really long way to covering those things that aren't in the budget."
Donors who give to the cause will receive a free long-sleeved red t-shirt, and also a coupon to Bahama Bucks for a free 16 ounce smoothie.
"Not only is this a way to help area schools and something fun for kids and teens to get involved in, but blood saves lives and we just rely on donors from our community to come in and make a difference," said Talley.
