AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Specialized Therapy Services of Amarillo started out with very little and has developed into a company that has the opportunity to turn into a lot.

One local small business is receiving the opportunity of a life time and is being honored by Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.

In 2002 Karen Day, one staff member and a bank account with $150 in it, embarked on a journey that showed a lot of promise.

S.T.S. offers a host of different services for more than 40 kids from speech therapy to education services for kids with disabilities.

"Many of the children that we serve in this school also have very severe speech language and physical therapy and occupational therapy needs," said Karen Day, Specialized Therapy Services.

Now they are being honored with an opportunity to be funded by larger business, so they can grow.

"We have many projects that we want to do and many things we want to grow, to build our own facility and to be able to match up our development in the projects that we want to do with capital investors who are able to match money with investors who are able to match money with our idea's that we want to complete."

They even get to go to Harvard to attend a business seminar.

"We have been recognized for our growth and development and that we will have the opportunity to learn more about business from fortune 100 companies."

Day went on to say that this will only brighten their future. And that she couldn't have done without the help of the Chamber of Commerce and Amarillo National Bank for putting them in a more public postion through words and honors throughout the the years.
