AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's a huge milestone for Crockett Middle School. It's celebrating it's 50th Anniversary. Bringing all alumni, former staff and pioneer supporters back to the school to celebrate and reflect. Pronews is featuring the school's history and accomplishments in this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.Crockett's orchestra provided the musical entertainment as alumni, current and past staff members and current students took a step back in time to reflect on the last 50 years.
"It's really interesting cause I know that we're one of the smaller schools in Amarillo and I know that 10, at least of the faculty members that work here now actually went to Crockett including our head principal Mrs. Loan," said Isaac Brown, 8th Grader.
"I started in the 1970's as a student at Crockett and my first teaching job when I came back to Amarillo from graduating college was at Crockett and then my daughter was at Crockett and now am the principal," said Lisa Loan, school's Principal.
A slide who presentation called, "Pioneers Through the Years", provided a look through school memorabilia, yearbooks and a tour of the school through pictures and how it's changed. As for it's history, the school is best known for it's most famous alumni, Rick Husband. Students say even in death he continues to inspire.
"It's makes us prideful in a good way, a way we can have that good history and reputation and kind of gives all of us students hope for figuring out what we want to do and even though we go to one of the smaller schools that we can still become something great," said Brown.
Building of the school began February 17, 1961. However, it was not officially open for students until the following fall.
