AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Having our voices heard in Austin is the idea behind Panhandle Days. Next week, business and community leaders will head to the state capitol to lobby for their causes. It's a diverse group of people from education to agriculture that's representing our area's interest. On Tuesday, they'll take their pleas and arguments to state legislators to hear. Every other year the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce organizes the event. Some of the important issues the group will discuss with state legislators, agriculture, energy, health care, education, arts and tourism. Because of the state's massive budget deficit and forecast deep cuts, the groups pleas are more important than ever.
"There's programs that are potentially going to be cut and we just want to make sure and we feel its important to the Panhandle as a whole as a united front, because we're all in this together that we go down and that we express how important these programs are to us and that we show them the value that it is for the Panhandle," said Jason Harrison, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce.
In fact, representatives from Frank Phillips College are traveling to Austin, asking for the state to keep their doors open. Pronews 7 will keep you posted.
