AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Now that Valentine's day is over there are plenty of those pink and red packaged sweets in the clearance isle. One of those are the Nestle-made Fun Dip. Upon further examination, you'll notice they come packaged in two different ways. The first is in singles. You get one Lik-M-Aid (the sugary stick) and you get one package of flavored sugar. The other comes with two Lik-M-Aid sticks and three packages of sugar. But I wanted to know, why doesn't it have three sticks?
The Lik-M-Aid has a marshmallow flavor and it's my favorite part of the treat. It seems, I'm not alone! It's also the favorite of ProNews 7 Executive Producer, Kayla Welch. There is even an online petition to get more Lik-M-Aid sticks into the packaging. So using my reporter skills, and media contacts, I called Nestle to ask them why. "The three flavors/two sticks combination is due to a manufacturing equipment design that does not allow for a stick to be inserted in the middle," said Tricia Bowles, in a statement to ProNews 7, a Nestlé USA spokesperson from the Confections & Snacks Division.
But what about trying to get the Lik-M-Aid separately? "If we sold the sticks alone, the product would cease to be Fun Dip because there wouldn't be anything to dip."
She continued, "We've heard both of these "suggestions" before and we continue to explore ways to make these changes."
