Mario Montes, 28, of Amarillo, arrested in Borger on several charges
BORGER, TEXAS -- On Friday, Borger police arrested an Amarillo man after he caused several wrecks, before eventually crashing his own vehicle and running away.
Borger police received several call on reports of a reckless driver who was also involved in several traffic accidents. The suspect, Mario Montes, 28, eventually wrecked the Ford Mustang he was driving in the 1900 block of Sterling Street and then took off on foot. Officers located Montes in the area, and he was taken into custody after a short foot chase through the Phillips Golf Course. He has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offenses.
After further investigation police found that Montes had crashed the Mustang through the back gate of Highland Park Cemetery. Montes then drove the car through the cemetery causing damage to the property. He then left the scene of the crash there and was involved in another incident in the 1000 block of Bowman, before then crashing with yet another vehicle in the 1000 block of Thrams. Officers also discovered that the Mustang Montes was driving was reported stolen out of Amarillo.
During his arrest police also found cocaine and identification/credit card information of four different people in his possession.
Montes remains behind bars in the city jail, on several charges including: Possession of a Controlled Substance Less than One Gram (Cocaine) (State Jail Felony); Evading Arrest and / or Detention in a Motor Vehicle Subsequent Offense (Felony of the Third Degree); Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (State Jail Felony); Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information (State Jail Felony); Evading Arrest and / or Detention on Foot Subsequent Offense (State Jail Felony); Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor); and Two Counts of Failure to Comply with Requirements Upon Striking a Fixed Object.
