AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The High Plains Food Bank distributed more than 700,000,000 pounds of food last year and it may be facing even higher totals this year -- thanks to the budget Congress passed last week to keep the government afloat.
That budget included provisions designed to cut back on some federal utility assistance programs, which means more people will face the choice of paying for utilities or food.
Food bank executives believe that will lead to more people needing donations through 2011.
"When the scenarios is really needing assistance with utilities, for example, and that's no longer given to them, the they really have to make hard choices and that's what we see on a daily basis, " says High Plains Food Bank Executive Director, Zack Wilson.
Pronews 7 will have Congressman Mac Thornberry live during our six o'clock news Thursday evening and we'll ask him about that and other national matters that affect us here in the Panhandle.
