AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Travis Middle School now has $1500 after winning the Kids Inc. Donor Days competition during the Coffee Memorial Blood Drive.
The school got two checks Thursday in a ceremony in front of all the teachers at the school. The money will be used to buy a big recycle dump bin. That should make it easier for the Green Team to recycle the paper for the entire school.
The second check will be used for landscaping and planting water- efficient foliage in front of the school. "We just started a green team with the kids and i and we're thinking of ways we could, especially in amarillo, how we could conserve national resources. It's in our TEKS to teach that and we just thought one way we could do it was to plant responsibly so we're enhancing our environment while making it beautiful also," said Mikela Dodson, a 7th Grade Science teacher and head of the Green Team.
