AMARILLO, TEXAS -- You may have noticed one specific component missing in your hamburger or salad -- and that's tomatoes.
Recent freezes on tomato farms have left some suppliers short for a while, but a local expert tells us things should be back to normal by the end of March if not sooner.
He also says that there are always alternatives just in case.
"If we're concerned about not having enough tomatoes to eat, we can potentially grow our own at home. Even in the winter you can have a couple of pots of tomatoes. That's always something that we can rely on just incase we're going to have another freeze next year as well," said Ronald French, Texas AgriLife Extension Service."
French says you can find tomato kits in grocery stores and garden centers -- and you can either pot them or hang them.
Local retailers like Walmart and United Supermarkets have not been affected in supply or price.
