AMARILLO, TEXAS -- You can still smell the gasoline that is lingering in the air as A.T.V.'s slide up and down the Canadian River for the annual mud bogs.
Hundreds of folks will call the Canadian River their home away from home this weekend, and they're happy to live the experience like one local who's been coming for the past eight years.
"I'm glad they're not going to do away with it because it's too much fun. You always see something new, and even if you don't have toys families come out here and ride in the back of trucks or even walk down to the tractor pull and it's fun for anybody," said Chris Emery, local mud bogger.
One rider says all those fun toys aren't just for the boys.
"It ain't just for men anymore -- it ain't. I think more ladies like doing it better than the men because mine comes out here and sits more than rides -- I ride more than he does," said Belinda Defever, local rider.
All in all the Canadian River mud bogs seem to be a tradition that locals hope to enjoy for generations to come.
"I got two little girls and we're planning on getting them four-wheelers and we'll be out here till forever," said Emery.
The mud bogs have been on-going for about 40 years, and officials like game wardens, deputies, and firemen are all on the spot just in case anything happens.
