RANDALL COUNTY, TEXAS -- We were allowed to go into the neighborhood and see the damage to some of the houses, but you wouldn't guess from the residents' reactions that they either lost or almost lost their homes yesterday.
"Everyone was calm it was kind of a party atmosphere for a while," said Shawnee Thompson, Lake Tanglewood resident.
It wasn't as easy for all of the residents to swallow, but residents tried to stay calm even with all of the chaos.
"I was watching a movie and our neighbors called and said that we needed to evacuate and we open the door and it was solid smoke and there were embers."
"The smoke got so even inside the house that you just start picking up a few things, go get in the car," said Wilbur Walls, another Lake Tanglewood resident.
Thankfully all hands were on deck to try and save as much of the neighborhood as they could.
"We did a general alarm page and had everybody mobilized at the sheriff's office," said Danny Alexander, Randall County Public Information Officer.
The fire department exercised all of their resources to battle the blaze, and a few sheriff's deputies risk their lives to save some of the houses.
"They got some hoses out and stopped the fire from burning a couple huge houses on Bayshore, that it got up in their yard and was fixing to hit the house and they got it knocked down with water hoses because the fire department was so stretched, there was just no units."
A tragedy like this almost always seems to bring out the best of the community.
"I mean they can come stay with us, we'll donate clothes, food and whatever we need to, I know they already are doing this at the Cowboy Church and its just amazing how this community comes together during a crisis," said Thompson.
According to the Randall County Sheriff's office they are still unaware of where the point of origin is or what cause this fire.
