AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It was two days ago the Panhandle area was rocked with raging wildfires. Now, preliminary assessments of fire damage in Potter and Randall Counties have been completed, according to the City of Amarillo.

The assessments were completed Monday at 6:00 and today the inspectors are reviewing the data to evaluate the degree of damage to properties. The Texas Forest Service and the Potter-Randall Appraisal District are assisting with the evaluations.

Willow Creek Kennel, which was destroyed in Sunday's fires, is receiving assistance from Animal Control. The Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society will assist with medical expenses inured to the fire and also help those affected with dog food and pet supplies. For information on that effort, contact the Humane Society at 373-1716.

Helping to coordinate and assist with donations is the Office of Emergency Management. Residents affected who need assistance are asked to register with the Red Cross. That location is at Cowboy Church at Loop 335 and Washington. To reach them, call 622-8000. The Church will continue to serve as a reception center as the shelter closed Tuesday morning.

Donations
Cash donations are needed most. It allows for the relief organizations to purchase what is most urgently needed. Amarillo National Bank and all Toot'n Totum locations are accepting cash donations.
Other donations like bottled water, clothing, blankets, linens, pots, pans and other household items can be taken to the Suddenlink office until noon this Friday.

Volunteers
If you want to volunteer, it is recommended that you register with a volunteer agency. Examples of those are the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the High Plains Food Bank.
