AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Families affected by the wildfires are now starting the grueling process to rebuild their homes. We have all seen the Panhandle Spirit shining brighter than ever this week after rallying around our neighbors following those devastating fires.
"Basically, we're about the community, anytime there's any kind of need we look to get involved with whoever's needing help," said Chad Conner, President of ActsCommunity.org.
ActsCommunity.org has certainly answered that call of need. Teaming with others in the community like River Road Baptist Church to help those uninsured homeowners in the area near Willow Creek and Eastern financially and emotionally.
"Since these wildfires our church has been working with ActsCommunity.org trying to identify the families that didn't have insurance. Really throughout this whole process we've just tried to help out any way that we can," said Jason Huntington, Pastor of River Road Baptist Church.
"We're just working away and trying to get this place cleaned up for them and then from there looking and seeing what we can do to get them back into a home," said Huntington.
Both men along with volunteers are spending their weekend helping those families knock down and clean up burned remains. Both say, they're looking at victim's of the fires, long term needs.
"We're focusing on the long term here in this community. You know they have their immediate needs met but they're quite a few people that are going to be homeless. So our long term goal is to get them all back in houses," said Conner.
He adds, in the coming weeks, they'll start looking at ways to get temporary homes and then eventually, start the building process.
