AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Region One UIL orchestra contest made it's way to the Amarillo Civic Center today where students will be playing their tunes until tomorrow.

The groups consist of schools from all around the Amarillo I.S.D.

Each group is judged against a state wide standard set by the UIL.

Three judges listen to the concert and three listen to the site reading portion.

And then students are given ratings based on their performances.

"It's just pure enjoyment, these students perform at a really high level and they perform three tunes they've prepared and on top of that they'll go into another venue and site read a piece they've never done before," said Cody Myers, Contest Host.

The competition will continue tomorrow morning at nine and come to a close after the last performance at three thirty.
