AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo has been named "The best place to live in the West," by the magazine American Cowboy. The list of the top 20 is featured in the April/M ay issue of the magazine.
The publisher said this year's entries live up to the western ideal of places embodying the rugged and free spirit of the west. The list also took into account health care, jobs, housing prices, and unemployment, but it also looked at Texas hospitality, and western icons like the Palo Duro Canyon, Big Texan Steak Ranch, and the World Championship Ranch Rodeo.
"We use the tag line, "Step Into The Real Texas," when we promote outside the city and that's what we are. This honor really recognizes that we are a place that features it's West Texas heritage," said Eric Miller, Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council.
Amarillo is the only city in Texas that received this honor.
