Police looking for driver.
AMARILLO. TEXAS -- Update 11:30 a.m.
Amarillo Police are looking for the driver of a hit and run wreck that disturbed power for nearly 1000 Amarillo residents early Friday morning.
Police say a 1994 Honday was northbound on 1-27 when it went to take the Buchanan Street exit. At the split, the car left the roadway, hit an uprooted tree and continued northbound. The car also hit a guide wire which looped over the live electric lines causing a short leading to the blackout of parts of the downtown area.
The car came to rest in a field near the Pronews 7 studios off Buchanan, police said. They are still on the lookout for the driver.

Downtown Amarillo was without power for the second time this week, this time because of a car wreck.
Xcel Energy says nearly 1000 of its customers in or around downtown lost power early this morning between 2:13 and 3:08. The power company cited a car wreck as the reasoning for the outage. According to Wes Reeves of Xcel Energy, the wreck caused a guywire to break and impact power lines but fortunately power was only out for about an hour.
