This was the scene on Feb. 27 as grassfires devastated the Panhandle.
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's just another example of the Panhandle Spirit. The Elk's of the American Lodge No. 923, will be having a relief benefit for victims of the recent wildfires tomorrow afternoon.
Aaron Amos of the Elks Lodge says they had the idea for the event after one of the member's lost his house in the fires. They were going to initially have donations for just for them but instead they decided to make it a larger event to help all the victims.
"We just decided to try to help out everyone," Amos said.
At the benefit, donations of all sorts will be accepted, including food, clothing and household items. Event planners will have a moving truck there to pick up the donations during the event. All donations will go directly to those affected by the grassfires.
The relief event is Sunday afternoon from 3-8 at the Elks Lodge located at 932 Clyde Street. Food, games, raffles and auctions are just a few of the things planned. More than $2,000 worth of items have been donated to the cause which will be raffled or auctioned off.
Amos also explained there will also be live acoustic musical performances from Casey Berry, Chancey Nernson and many more.
"It's going to be a lot of fun. You can bring the whole family," he said.
