A public hearing is scheduled Wednesday for the bill that would allow concealed weapons on college campuses.
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- It's perhaps one of the most controversial issues of the year. It's whether or not concealed handgun license holders should be allowed to carry their weapons into college classrooms and buildings.
According to the Associated Press, a public hearing is scheduled this week in the Texas House that deals with the issue. It will be the first major step on the leglislation that some school officials say could be very dangerous.
Supporters of the bill call it a gun right's issue and say it's critical to help avoid mass shootings like the one at Virginia Tech in 2007.
The bill, by Dallas-area Republican Rep. Joe Driver, reportedly has the support of more than half the members of the House.
Texas, according to the AP, has become prime battleground for the movement of whether or not to allow concealed weapons on college campuses.
The hearing, which is before the Homeland Security and Public Safety committee, is scheduled Wednesday, but we want to know what you think. Do you support the bill to allow concealed weapons on campus? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
