AMARILLO, TEXAS -- For most people in the United States it's spring break which means thousands of high school and college students making their way to different locations across the U.S. for fun and relaxation.

We met one group of high school students from Minnesota who instead are spending their time doing something a little more constructive.

12 students from Totino-Grace High School in Fridley Minnesota traded in their beach towels for paint brushes.

And their flip flops for power tools, but how can kids this young be so driven to sacrifice their spring break, to build a house for somebody they don't even know.

"I'm just so blessed with so many things, I just want people to be as blessed as me and I want to give back what i've received," said Ben Larson, one of the students.

suprisingly these high school peers don't even know each other that well -- something that is changing quickly.

"We know each other a little bit but this kind of atmosphere definately lets us get to know each other a lot better and we have so many fun times and we've already made a lot of memorable moments and there are many more to come definately," said Ali Olsen, another student on the trip.

Although these students aren't in school, one of their teachers says they're learning outside of the classroom.

"They get to see poverty with a different face, it's not just somebody on the street without a home, there's so many different levels and what i love about this partuclar project is that while we're not immediately giving something to somebody we are part of the process," said Colleen O'Neil, on of the students teachers and chaperone.

These kids will be here for the rest of the week putting in their sweat and hard work, "I have saw dust all over my face, we've been painting a little bit, just having a good time building this house," to give at least one family a new beginning.

Totino-Grace High School has many after school service programs all of which these students participate in.
