Many are starting to question whether or not America is declining.
America is declining. That's according to Politico who says Republican activists believe the nation is hurtling in the wrong direction and is on the brink of losing its unique place in the world.
Activists are saying America cannot continue in the way it's heading, which according to them, is an economic decline and being overextended on foreign commitments.
Politico also says the sentiment of America being on the decline is one that's been reanimated by Barack Obama's presidency.
West Texas A&M University Political Science Professor Dr. Dave Rausch says the argument of America being on the decline is not a new one.
"It seems somewhat depressing to say that America is on the decline," he said. "The challenge presented in the argument is that there is no source identified. Clearly, if America is on the decline, we have been on the decline for a long time, much longer than since President Obama took office in 2009. If we can't find the source of the decline, how are we going to know that we have found the appropriate solution to stem the decline?"
Some also believe that America is becoming too European, meaning we are on a moral, economic and political decline.
"The problem is technological innovation," Rausch said. "The United States, like Europe and most of the developed world, is moving away from an economy based on manufacturing and into an information-based economy. This is sometimes called the knowledge economy."
Rausch also explained America is very similar to the way it was back in the late 1970s.
"I remember as a kid in the late 1970s that the United States as in a period of malaise, Rausch added. "In 1980, Ronald Reagan for president as a campaign theme of 'It's morning in America.' He basically told Americans that it was time to wake up and get back to work."
"The difference today is that many Americans want to work to make America great again, but many jobs have been outsourced."
