One local city wants to start a "Quiet Zone" so trains don't blow their whistles inside the city.
MEMPHIS, TEXAS -- You always know when you're near a railroad crossing. That's because of the loud noises the trains make. One Panhandle town wants to change that and make it to where trains cannot blow their whistles while going through town.
According to Nelwin Ward, City Secretary for Memphis, the City Commission there has asked TxDOT to do a feasibility study. The Commission wants trains to stop blowing their whistles inside town making it a "quiet zone."
Approximately 28 trains go through Memphis each day. Only 58 other municipalities have a "quiet zone" like the one proposed.
Ward says no one was in attendance at Monday night's meeting.
What do you think? Is a "quiet zone" a good idea?
