AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The construction of the Alstom facility off N.E. 24th and Lakeside is on schedule and completion is expected in May. Once up and running, Alstom will make important parts that are used on wind turbines. The construction that began in September is coming along nicely. Currently, the facility is hiring just a few support staff positions. But says coming up in the fall, the company will open up the hiring process for all production staff.
"We're not on a timeline for people. We're going to gauge the market at that time and ramp up slowly. So we'll hire a core number of people as we begin to train and we'll train both here and then we'll also train a fair number of people in Spain," said Scott Jones, Alstom Amarillo Plant Manager.
"We will always gauge our hiring plan off what the order intake is and what the market is telling us because we certainly don't want to over-hire and then have to risk letting people off. That would be the worse scenario. So we are very conservative...that's been our approach, this is a long-term approach," said Jones.
