AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A group has been formed that supports the Downtown Amarillo Design Standards.
All this coming with a little less than two months until the vote on whether those design standards should be repealed For months, there's been a battle between the Amarillo City Commission and the Amarillo Citizens for property rights, a group formed by citizens who are against the design standards.
It's the same group that filed the petitions to repeal that very ordinance. But now, there's a new group in town looking to counter their push.
"It's just concerned citizens that are interested in making sure that the urban design standards are kept in place," said Chan Davidson, Co-Chair of the newly formed Keep Amarillo Strong organization.
Davidson has an opinion about that other group that opposes the design standards.
"I just think that perhaps they don't have an understanding of the design standards themselves or the posative impact it'll have on the community."
Davidson also says that he would love anybody who supports downtown revitalization and these design standards to contact the organization on its new Facebook page or its website keepamarillostrong.org.
The Amarillo Citizens for Property Rights have stated in the past they don't want Amarillo to turn into Dallas or Oklahoma City. We tried to reach them on Wednesday for a statement on the new group, but they haven't returned any of our calls.
