AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Renovations to the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport continue to make headway.
The airport will be doing away with the vehicle inspection point unit and reconstructing the upper and lower deck.
While that will take about a year to be completed we can expect to see the new terminal on the inside by early June.
"This morning two of our six passenger boarding bridges arrived, and that was an exciting event. Also the equipment that T.S.A. is going to use in the in-line bag system for screening has arrived and is being put in place," said Pat Rhodes, Aviation Director.
In addition, you'll also find checking-in faster as well as more private.
"There will be no screening of anyone's bag in the public areas like we do now. When someone comes in to go out on a flight they'll hand their bag over to the airlines, the airline will put in on the bag-belt, it will go down inside of the building, and it'll be taken care of and it'll go to the airplane," said Rhodes.
Some of the things you can also expect to see is a restaurant in the secure area as well as the outside area.
Another change some of you may or may not like is that the bar will now be moved to just the secure part of the terminal.
Since the airport will be doing away with the vehicle check-point starting next Wednesday, you won't be able to park and wait on the upper or lower decks.
Instead, drivers will be directed to a "cell phone lot" to wait for passengers.
