AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The state senate is proposing reducing the Railroad Commission from three members to a single member oil and gas commissioner.
They beleive it will be less expensive to maintain and staff for a single member rather than a three member commission, something that is now being debated on the house and senate floors.
Many members of the oil and gas community feel this approach is very risky, especially if the situation becomes a matter of a quote bad apple taking over that position.
"It's not necessarily broken so lets not fix it, three commissioner set up has served us well for over 100 years and there's no reason to beleive that a one commissioner approach is better except in some minor ways from an adminstrative stand point," said Wayne Hughes, Executive Vice President Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owner Association.
Hughes went on to say that if a bad decision is made by the one person in power, that it could take up to four years before they could be voted out of office.
