AMARILLO, TEXAS -- April 14th is just weeks away and it's the last day to register to vote for the upcoming May elections in Amarillo.

There are 11 candidates running for mayor, the most that Amarillo has had in its history.

And some of the most talked about topics are three major ordinances.

They include a sign ordinance that has been talked about since 2009, along with the downtown urban design standards and the issue of single member districts.

The candidates range from a 21year old man to someone running on a trans-gendered platform.

All with hopes of being the next representative of Amarillo as our mayor.

So I spoke with a few voters to see what they think about this years elections.

"I'm not really familiar with most of them, I know of two of them that I absolutely would not vote for, and I hope I can convince everybody I know not to vote for them," said Robin Sammons.

"I know its definitely not something to play around with, it's just turning something into a circus or throwing people in because you don't like who's there, but that's really what I believe with people voting. Not just to vote for somebody because you don't want the other people to win but voting really where your hearts at in it," said Joy Tucker.

All four commission spots are also being contested, and with elections getting closer every day, in this case only time will tell who is going to emerge victorious.
