GUYMON, OKLA. -- Sunday's grassfires are proving to be even more devastating for the Guymon community.

Preliminary damage estimates show the fire has caused more than $2.9 million in damage. This amount is expected to rise because it does not include the cost for emergency responders who helped battle the blaze throughout the evening.

It was Sunday when smoke filled the air throughout Guymon, a city of about 15,000. More than 500 homes in the area were evacuated, including the Elks Addition and several mobile home parks.

According to Texas County Emergency Management Director Harold Tyson, 345 homes were affected and three homes are being declared lost.

Power company Tri-County Electric says it had $20,000 in damage to their system while phone company PTCI is reporting more than $40,000 in damage.
