DEAF SMITH COUNTY, TX -- Our local republican candidate for president, Jared Blankenship, says not only was our current budget situation with Congress and the potential for a government-wide shutdown something he and others predicted, but he thinks it could have been avoided as well.
We caught up with Blankenship early Friday to get his reaction to this potential government shutdown.
"We know we've got spending problems...and that's what it is...even though it's characterized as a revenue problem, but they're spending way too much," declared Blankenship.
He added that our legislative mentality is like a cancer. We need to take drastic action to stop the the current disease of overspending.
"Maybe part of the treatment is we have to go through to make people realize what we truly have."
And he truly believes our elected officials and their respective parties need to learn to live within their budgets...just like the rest of us are required to do on a daily basis.
"My question to leaders is; Why don't we have the foresight to have a little cushion...we're living to the fullest extent of our means and beyond our means with no thought that there might ever be something happening."
His bid for the office of President is legitimate, and believes simple logic combined with a little bit of common sense would go a long way in Washington D.C. these days.
