AMARILLO, TEXAS -- In your travels around Amarillo you might have noticed some people carrying buckets at some of our intersections.
Officers are trying to fill those buckets with enough money to fund year-round sports for kids in Special Olympics.
They'll be wrapping things up today around 7 p.m., but you'll see them again tomorrow.
"Every year we have to do some fundraising to make sure that the athletics in the Panhandle area continuously have the proper sports and competitions that we want to provide for them for Special Olympics. It makes them feel just like everybody else and that's why we do what we do every year," said Lisa Chrane, Texas Special Olympics Area Director.
The organization plans on adding quite a few sports to their schedule.
"We've got athletics coming up which is going to be at Boys Ranch. After that we start our golf, aquatics, and we're also adding tennis this year. We've got five new sports that we're adding to the Panhandle.
You can make a donation at the following intersections April 9 from 9 to 5 p.m.:
Westgate Parkway East, Westgate Parkway West, Coulter and 34th, Coulter and 45th, 34th and Western, 34th and Bell, Bell and 45th, Bell and I-40, Western and 45th, Georgia and I-40, Georgia and I-27, Georgia and 34th, Ross and I-40, and I-40 and Grand intersections.
