AMARILLO, TEXAS -- UPDATE: Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy sent us a notice saying that as of 9:50a.m. power has been restored in the affected areas. So far, the cause of the outage is still unknown.

Pronews 7 has confirmed there is a large power outage in the southwest part of Amarillo. Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy told us that there are 3,654 customers without power. He said there is a problem with the Coulter Street Substation, and that crews are en route to search for the problem.
Scanner traffic alerted us to the problem when requests for police officers to direct traffic at 45th and Bell were overheard.
