AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Lone Star Ballet is preparing for its latest performance, but this one is more unique than some of their past shows.
This ballet has original music composed by D.J. Brooks, an original story written by King Hill, and choreography by Vicki Mcean all collaborating to tell the story of three couragious Panhandle women.
Cynthia Ann Parker, Molly Goodnight, and Frenchy McCormick.
"These three ladies were the trailblazers of this part of the country. You know we hear about the men, but what we don't hear a lot about sometimes is the women and so what we're going to see is the women's lives and how they withstood the strength, and the courage, and the love the joy and the sorrows they endured," said McLean.
Especially Parker who was kidnapped by the Comanches and lived with them for 25 years and eventually mothering a chief.
Making the preparation for these roles more than just about choreography.
"It was very cool when they first told me that I received the role and I did a lot of research and I looked up her story," said Hannah Bradshaw, who is playing Parker in the the ballet.
that makes this ballet something the people of the panhandle should find easy to identify with.
"I think this is something people will enjoy, because it is our history. It means more to us, it's not something that we would see on the big screen, it's something we in this part of the country have experienced, the wind, the buffalo and the stories," said McLean.
Performances are Friday at eight and Saturday at three and eight. You can purchase tickets online or by phone at Panhandle Tickets.
