AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Pantex is being honored by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) for exceptional utilization of small businesses in subtracting efforts.
It received the 2011 Dwighter D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence for its "hard work, innovative ideas and dedication."
"This award is a reflection of NNSA's and Pantex's commitment to working with our partners in the small business community to invest in our future, implement the president's agenda, and improve the way we do business," said NNSA Administrator Thomas D'Agostino. "Small businesses drive our economy, so I applaud the men and women at Pantex for continuing to invest in small businesses in the Texas Panhandle and across the country."
During the fiscal year 2010, Pantex awarded more than $120 million in procurements. $95.1 million alone was awarded to small businesses. At 78.2 percent, it's above the small business annual goal of 61 percent.
$34.2 million was awarded to local vendors. That, according to a release, has a significantly positive impact on the Amarillo area economy.
Pantex will receive the award in Washington, D.C. during the SBA Small Business Week in May.
