AMARILLO, TX -- Gold prices have hit an all-time high... closing at more than $1,500.00 dollars an ounce this week, which translates into more customers at at least one Amarillo business.
Terry Jones at Cash for Gold at Georgia and I-40 says he's seen about a 30% increase in business in just the last couple weeks.
"A lot of people are cleaning out drawers, finding stuff they haven't worn in years, they know it's worth a lot of money, and they bring it it. Business has been very brick the last 2-3 weeks, since gas started going up," says Jones. He adds people are spring cleaning, finding old jewelry, bringing it in and after seeing what they get, they're going back for more.
And Jones says to be careful of fly-by-night gold buying services you might see on TV or those which come to town for a weekend, because they usually pay a lot less than local gold dealers. And while he says he can't give you an estimate over the phone, if you come in, he'll give you a fair estimate based on the gold's weight.
