November 2009 pipeline explosion in Bushland.
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Pronews 7 has learned that the Torres family has settled their lawsuit with El Paso Natural Gas, stemming from the pipeline explosion in the Bushland area in November 2009.
Their home was severely damaged and their teenage daughter was severely burned in the explosion.
The Torres family's attorney, Kevin Glasheen, told us the settlement hearing this morning in the 108th District Court in Potter County went fine, and the court approved their settlement. He was unable to disclose the terms of the settlement, as both parties agreed to keep those terms confidential.
Glasheen did say that the family is very satisfied with the settlement.
While their daughter that was burned is back in school, she will require further medical treatment for her injuries. A medical trust was set up in the agreement to take care of any of those future costs.
Glasheen told us, "I would say that El Paso completely satisfied the Torres family's claim for damages. With the settlement fund that offered, there was no need for the family to go forward in court."
The family is from California, but they have not made a decision on whether or not to stay in the area. Glasheen said that the family will take their time and make the decision that is right for them.
We did contact El Paso Natural Gas for a statement, and a representative told us they will not be releasing a comment.
