An Amarillo man has now been charged with five felonies after a life-threatening road rage incident last week.
Michael Taylor Hart, 36, is charged with two charges of aggravated assault causing bodily injury. He is also charged with three counts of endangering a child.
The charges stem from an incident where a woman fell victim to road rage and ended up in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
It was April 21, when police say Angie Chavarria possibly cut off a vehicle as she pulled in to get gas at Sam's Club. A verbal altercation then ensued with Chavarria and the driver of the other vehicle, Hart.
Chavarria then left Sam's with her teenage daughter as a passenger in their Honda CRV. Police say Hart apparently followed the vehicle on I-40 at about 9 p.m. in his Ford Escort. In Hart's car, were his wife and children.
Witnesses tell police Hart pulled beside Chavarria's car and escalated the verbal altercation. According to the incident report, Hart's car swerved into the Honda, striking its passenger side. The Honda then lost control and rolled into a traffic sign and a tree just before the Crockett exit on I-40.
Police say Hart then left the scene. Chavarria was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Her daughter sustained only minor injuries. At last check, Pronews 7 confirmed Chavarria was still in critical condition.
Hart contacted the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center to report his involvement in an accident. Police then went to his location and took him to the police department. No one was hurt in his vehicle.
